Orlando furioso

Antonio Vivaldi

Jean-Claude Malgoire continues to explore Vivaldi's repertoire with one of his flagship works

Sung in Italian with French subtitles

Vivaldi wrote 94 operas, which places him just after Scarlatti, who wrote 114, but well ahead of Handel, Hasse and Porpora, to name but his contemporaries. He composed two works on the theme of the frenzy of Orlando (or raging Roland). The first was in 1714 (Orlando finto pazzo), followed by a second version in 1727, which is the version chosen by Jean-Claude Malgoire. The work is one of Vivaldi's finest and bears witness to his full artistic maturity.
