The unclassifiable prodigy Daniil Trifonov in Ravel's G major Concerto, one of the quintessential works in the French piano repertoire
It would be a mistake to confine the Staatskapelle Dresden to the name of Strauss alone. While Strauss is indeed a major component of the musical culture of the orchestra and its conductor alike, they both perform repertoires that can lead them into very different fields. The programme of this second evening is a perfect example. It begins with Pelléas and Mélisande by Fauré and then by Schoenberg, an advocate for modernity now considered a 20th century "classic". It continues with Ravel's "classical" Concerto for Piano in G Major, a major piece in the piano repertoire, performed here by the young prodigy Daniil Trifonov.
