Philharmonia Orchestra
Esa-Pekka Salonen  conductor

Novel, ambitious programme of Stravinsky, Sibelius and Beethoven: the unmistakeable hallmark of Esa-Pekka Salonen's high musical standards

The Philharmonia Orchestra and its conductor have been among the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées's "regulars" for several seasons now. As usual, they are once again offering us an ambitious programme combining three composers that are seldom played at the same concert. Last season, they performed Beethoven's second symphony; this season, they are continuing with the third. This Eroica Symphony will be preceded by Stravinsky's Symphonies of Wind Instruments, one of the Russian musician's most complex and ambitious works for orchestra, and followed by Sibelius's Symphony No. 5. A way for Esa-Pekka Salonen and his musicians to show the diversity of their talent and whet our symphonic curiosity.
