Christian Thielemann conductor
Renée Fleming soprano
Strauss's Alpine Symphony soars under the bows of the Staatskapelle Dresden orchestra, providing a perfect backdrop for Renée Fleming
Audiences have been looking forward to them; now they're back in Paris for two evenings with some of the most beautiful compositions of the 20th century. Two years ago, the Staatskapelle Dresden and its charismatic principle conductor Christian Thielemann gave one of the most sumptuous performances of A Hero's Life. Their first evening this season will once again be devoted to Strauss with the Alpine Symphony poem, another large-scale, very richly orchestrated Strauss composition. It will be preceded by the Four Last Songs, the composer's musical testament and the swansong of Romantic music, performed by American soprano Renée Fleming. An exciting evening in anticipation.
