Magdalena Kozena's warm voice shines in her favourite repertoire with a new programme of French Baroque arias
Following on from last season's "Médée trahie" tour, Magdalena Kozena and Emmanuelle Haïm continue their collaboration in French Baroque music. With the Concert d'Astrée orchestra, they devote a programme to the tragic opera heroines idealised by Charpentier and Rameau. This concert combines the great expressive arias of Médée or Hippolyte and Aricie with excerpts from lesser-known works such as Alcione by Marais, Circé by Desmarets, Scylla et Glaucus by Leclair and Ulysse by Rebel. No allegorical prologues or infernal monsters and creatures here: only jealous, plaintive tragic actresses, singing their love with fury, hatred, despair or tenderness, like a leitmotif from Dardanus, "Cease, cruel Love, to reign over my soul".
