The Mozart Awards for opera
Competition for emerging young opera singers

Be the first to discover and reveal the new generation of great opera singers!

French theatre has its Molière awards and cinema has its Césars. But did you know that opera has been celebrating its Mozarts for five years now? The Paris Opera Competition is the fruit of one man's love of opera: Pierre Vernes founded the competition to reveal outstanding voices and support talented young opera singers. Qualifying rounds held at top international institutions showcase opera arias from the Baroque to the contemporary period. There is also a special prize for the French repertoire. And to reward the most promising singers, the event not only gathers the elite of the musical world, it also makes a point of giving the public a say: there are two audience prizes for the favourite man and woman. The sopranos Julia Lezhneva and Julie Fuchs, who are well known to regular patrons of the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, won awards in previous editions of the competition. Follow the adventure of these promising artists!
